Steps to break the hierarchy:

1. Click on the Site Actions –> View All Site Content–> Pages–>Click on the menu of the specific Page –> Click Manage Permissions
2.Permissions page appear. In that page the user can only see Actions option and list of groups/users which are inherited from parent site.
3.Click on Actions–> Edit Permissions
4.A pop up appears. Click OK.
5.Now check the check boxes of restricted users/groups–> Click on Actions–>Click on Remove User Permissions
6.Remove all inherited users/user Groups
7.Finally the inherited permissions are removed and now the user can add new user Groups and can specify the permissions.

Some times user wants to do some action like hiding a panel when a anchor tag is clicked but at the same time the user dont want to reload the page  in such cases this is helpful

Connection strings should be declared in Web.config file for two reasons mainly
a)  If any change is needed then if we update the code at one place then its enough.

b) During deployments the usernames passwords and servers keep on chainging so it would be easy to find it.

in order to save html tags also along with the text to
database when text editor is used.

Recently I have added test cases in Microsoft Test and lab manager.  Thought of sharing my experience with you . Instead of  writing test cases in excel sheet and saving them in saperate excel sheets we can have all the test cases at a single place and from this only we can assign them to any one we need and we also have an option to specify the test environment configuration i.e, browsers, operating systems information. This is very useful and user friendly. As for now it has some flaws also. let’s discuss them later

Now let us look into how to add test cases in lab manager

Steps to add Test Cases:

1. Open Lab manager and connect to the Tfs server.

2. Click on Contents tab  in Plan section

3.Click on New and select Suite

5.   After Creating a new Suite.

6.    We can create many child Suits for a parent suit. Create a new test cases for any suite by clicking on the New

7.  Add the title, test steps and expected results. using this we can also Assing this test cases to any tester.

8. Save the test cases by clicking on Save and Close

“Unable to load DLL ‘Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.RecorderBarBHO90.dll’: The specified module could not be found“

I was able to record web tests for the first week or so after installing VS2008, but the error above started occuring today.

I’ve tried uninstalling VS2008 and re-installing but I’m still having the same problem.

Finally I got the solution:

We were able to resolve the problem by copying

Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.RecorderBarBHO90.dll present in

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.RecorderBarBHO90.dll

to the

“C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer” folder. IE finds the DLL now and the web test recorder pane is functioning correctly

Use ful for Testing  SQL statements and stored procedures in the development phase of a project by single-stepping through statements to confirm that the code works as expected. Troubleshooting problems in SQL Server by capturing events on a production system and replaying them on a test system. This is useful for testing or debugging purposes and allows users to continue using the production system without interference.

How to use Sql Server  profiler:

Sql Server profiler is available with the sql server it self. Its a performance  tool used to know the performance of the applications sql statements like stored procedures.

It is helpful to know the stored procedures performance like the time taken to by the stored procedure to run and also the number of times the stored proceure is used etc.

* Open  sql  server profiler from the start menu as shown in the figure

* Fill the details in the connect to server window.

* Click on the File and select the New Trace, which creates a new trace to profile.

* Enter the trace name and select any existing template which suits your requirement.

Sql Profiler provides some default templates.They are as follows.

1) SP_Counts: Contains the  events to track how often stored procedures are executed. Its is used to  identify the most commonly used stored procs.

2) Standard(Default):Captures an extensive range of events and data. Used  as a start point or for general monitoring purposes.

3) SQLProfilerTSQL:Captures events that relate to Transact SQL (T-SQL). Used to intercept and verify SQL statements for debugging purposes.

4) TSQL_Duration: Used to measure  the  execution time  in microseconds of t-sql queries  and stored  procedures.  It  is  very  helpful  to  know  about  long  running  queries.

5) TSQL_Grouped: Similar to SQLProfilerStandard, but with information grouped and organized. Use as a start point for general monitoring and troubleshooting.

6) TSQL_Replay: It is helpful to capture the events and can be used to replay them.  It can be replayed        on another server also.

7) SQLProfilerTSQL_SPs: Provides extensive logging for stored procedures, including queries executed within stored procedures. Use to troubleshoot stored procedures.

SQLProfilerTuning: Contains events needed to capture the execution cost and related data. Use to track query costs.

* we  also have options to save the results to a file, database table by clicking the check boxes  save to File, Save to DataBase  and provide the path .

* Click on Events Selection tab and select the events  which are required for test.

These are some of the events in the Events selection.

Cursors: Collection of event classes produced by cursor operations.

Database: Collection of event classes produced when data or log files grow or shrink utomatically.

Errors and Warnings: Collection of event classes produced when a SQL Server error or warning occurs (for example, an error during the compilation of a stored procedure or an exception in SQL Server).

Locks: Collection of event classes produced when a lock is acquired, cancelled, released, etc.

Objects: Collection of event classes produced when database objects are created, opened, closed, dropped, or deleted.

Performance: Collection of event classes produced when SQL data manipulation (DML) operators execute.

Scans: Collection tables and indexes are scanned.

Security Audit: Collection of event classes used to audit server activity.

Sessions: Collection of event classes produced by clients connecting to and disconnecting from an instance of SQL Server.

Stored Procedures: Collection of event classes produced by the execution of stored procedures.

Transactions: Collection of event classes produced by the execution of Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) transactions or by writing to the transaction log.

TSQL: Collection of event classes produced by the execution of Transact-SQL statements passed to an instance of SQL Server from the client.

User Configurable: Collection of user-configurable event classes.

* We also have an option to Column Filter the events.

* We can also perform the trace by binding the Application Name or database name to know the performance

* After entering the details and setting the events , filters, Data columns click run button. And start running the application.

* Stop the profiler by clicking the stop red icon.

* Check the results produced by the Sql profiler according to the specifications.

Best practices:

• Never run SQL Profiler on the database server
• Choose events and data columns
• Set filters in SQL Profiler
• Never trace directly to a table, instead trace to a file (You can query the active trace file using )
• Filter the results, such as “Duration > 1000″.
• Include only the events that you are interested in, such as SP:Completed and SQL:BatchCompleted
• Evaluate query statements captured by SQL Profiler

**Importing Data from excel by using SqlServer import and export Data wizard present in Sql.**

Step1: Open Microsoft Sql Server Studio and right click on the DB to which you want to import the data and select import Data in tasks list as shown below.

Step2: Sql server import and export data wizard appears

Step3: Select the Data source as Microsoft Excel as we are importing data from Excel and specify the source file path, and the version of excel na dclick next.

Step4: Choose the destination server, Authentication, Database and click next button.

Step5:

Step6: Select the destination table into which the data should be imported and you can also view the preview of the data by clicking the preview button.

Step7: Select Execute immediately option

Step8: Click “Finish” button.

Step9: Finally the execution was successful message appears and that is the last step of importing the data.

**By generating script in excel and running those in Sql.**

I find it very useful to import data from excel to database

Step1: Using this query we can generate the script to import data.

=”insert into table_Name (ColumnName1,ColumnName2) values (‘”&excelcoordinate1&”‘,’”&excelcoordinate2&”‘)”

table_Name –>Name of the table in the database to which we want to import the data.

columnName1–>Column1 Name in the table

columnName2–>Column2 Name in the table

excelcoordinate1–>position of the data which you want to import

Note:

*always start and end with & and select the box the cordinate will automatically gets populated

*If the datatype is a string then always enclose them in single quotes

A2 implies A-Column name, 2-Rownumber

B2 implies B-Column name, 2-Rownumber

C2 implies C-Column name, 2-Row number

write the above query in the excel by selecting the appropriate coordinates in the excel and then select the number of rows for which you want to apply the rule and then click enter.

Step2:

copy the generated querys from the excel list and then paste them in sql  run those querys in the sql database and you can see that the data gets imported to the data base.
